The Stable

My day begins at the barn. Four horses and a pony will still need food and hay if it's raining or snowing, or if my "getting older" aches and pains slow me down. It is my ritual, my glue. It seems to anchor life down, and demand that I take time to plan my day, to sing, to cry, or to just enjoy the moment. It is my time, and there are always new and beautiful things to see and hear. Deer and other wildlife have learned that I will not harm them, and they are often in the pasture or drinking from the lake. I leave feeling refreshed and grateful for the privilege of sharing a few moments with them.

Over the years, many animals have selected us to be their family. Since we live on a lake, I imagine many of the dogs and cats have been drawn to the water for survival, but I can't help but think that they somehow know that we will help them. We have given homes to many…probably too many...or we have found other responsible homes for them. I just can't understand someone that would abandon a small, helpless animal, but it happens too often. I truly enjoy my animals, and I will be sharing some of their stories soon. If you ever see any pet food coupons (especially Purina products) that you would like to share, please email me and I will send you a self-addressed, stamped envelope. I will share any that I cannot use with several animal rescue agencies that have helped me. Thanks.
